Wall-Breaking Tools

Punch Walls To Escape Tools: Prices, Unlocks, and Uses

Last updated:

In the five-layer escape, choose a tool for your current wall, buy it at the Tool Shop, and equip it from your hotbar. Compare cash purchases and Forever equipment, then use the stage recommendations to decide where to spend next.

Tool Prices, Unlocks, and Uses

Cash tool purchases and Forever benefits serve different goals: cash gets you equipment as you progress, while the corresponding Forever pass provides its named tool at the start of eligible runs. Keep the purchase condition attached to the price when comparing options.

In Ironhold (Chapter 2), enter the Drill Machine to drill through the workshop gate and ram walls; this rideable machine is separate from the handheld Drill and Drill-Bot. Follow the Ironhold escape guide for the route.

For a practical buying order, use the wall-stage recommendations.

Buy and Equip Tools at the Tool Shop

In the five-layer escape:

  1. Break wall blocks, collect the rubble, and sell it at the Crusher to build your cash balance.
  2. Approach the tool's rack in the Tool Shop and press E to view its purchase options.
  3. Select the purchase option you want. Spoon costs $50, Pickaxe costs $150 for THIS RUN, Sledgehammer is listed at $350, and Drill costs $750 for THIS RUN.
  4. Select the purchased tool from your hotbar, return to the wall, and aim it at the blocks you want to break.

Read the purchase label before spending: THIS RUN applies to the current run. For the other menu choices and their currencies, see This Run vs Permanent purchases.

Choose Tools for Your Wall Stage

Stage or goal Recommended choice Why it fits
Starting the five-layer escape Fists Start breaking blocks and earning cash before buying another tool. Approach the wall and click to punch.
Early Drywall and Brick Spoon A $50 purchase gets you an early digging tool that works through Drywall and into Brick.
Continuing through Brick, Concrete, and Reinforced Pickaxe A practical next purchase for sustained progress across these layers. Aim at the blocks and swing.
Completing the Reinforced purchase task Sledgehammer Buy it to fulfill the Sledgehammer task; budget $350 for that goal.
Steel and the escape opening Drill with Dynamite Dynamite opens larger spaces, while Drill keeps you working between blasts and clears remaining blocks.

Sledgehammer is not the only tool that can break Reinforced. Although its purchase task says Reinforced needs it, Pickaxe and Drill can also break walls during this stage. If your immediate goal is digging farther, you can keep progressing with those tools; if your goal is completing the purchase task, buy Sledgehammer.

For Steel, favor Drill plus Dynamite over drilling alone: blasts clear larger spaces, and the Drill gives you something productive to use during the cooldown.

If your objective is clearing rooms rather than advancing through the five named wall layers, keep using Fists and improve its Radius, Hit Power, Depth, and Speed. Follow the room-clearing guide for progression requirements.

Use Drill Between Dynamite Blasts

Drill works by keeping its bit against the wall for continuous drilling. Its shop description lists seven drilling hits per second and identifies Steel as a suitable target.

  1. Obtain Drill from the Tool Shop and Dynamite from its shop display, which has an E View prompt.
  2. Equip Dynamite from the hotbar and use it near the wall to blast out a larger space.
  3. Switch to Drill while Dynamite recharges. Hold the bit against the remaining wall and keep drilling.
  4. Switch back to Dynamite after its cooldown of a few seconds, then repeat as needed.
  5. Collect loose rubble with a vacuum and use Drill on blocks left around the opening.

At Daylight, continue clearing the top and edges of the opening. Follow the wall layers and escape-hole guide for the full route and final cleanup.

Start Future Runs with Forever Equipment

To have a tool ready at the beginning of later runs, obtain its corresponding Forever pass:

  • Pickaxe Forever, Jackhammer Forever, and Ball & Chain Forever provide their named equipment at the start of every Prison run.
  • Sledgehammer Forever, TNT Forever, and Fists of Justice Forever provide their named equipment at the start of every run.

These benefits are useful when you want a particular tool available immediately on repeat runs. See game pass prices and benefits to compare the passes.

Jackhammer also has a Tool Shop rack with an E viewing prompt and an R$49 rack offer. Use the offer's purchase label to distinguish it from Jackhammer Forever.

Keep the equipment names separate when shopping: Drill, Drill-Bot, and Jackhammer are different entries, as are Dynamite and TNT. The Drill-and-Dynamite technique above uses those two specific tools.

Upgrade Your Tool or Follow the Wall Route

In the five-layer escape, open the right-side UPGRADES menu and select your tool. Power improves damage per hit, Speed improves attack speed, and Reach can increase how many blocks a hit reaches. Choose the attribute that addresses what is slowing your digging, then compare its current value, next value, and cash cost.

The room-clearing Fists menu uses Radius, Hit Power, Depth, and Speed. Open it with Q or UPGRADES. Use the upgrade stats, costs, and priorities to compare the available improvements for your flow.

If you are choosing equipment to satisfy a task, consult the wall-route quests and Gem rewards. If you are deciding where to dig next, follow the wall-layer route.
